Recently, the government made a chaotic and shambolic decision to "pause" or "withdraw" local government reorganisation in Suffolk after nearly 2 years of planning by Ipswich Borough and surrounding Councils, and no one knows what this really means or what will happen next.
So at the Ipswich Borough Council meeting on 23rd September, the Conservative Group led by Cllr Ian Fisher, persuaded the Labour majority council to agree that all costs related to local government reorganisation by council staff during this time will be calculated with a view to requesting reimbursement from the Labour government for all relevant net costs. At a time when council finances are already under enormous pressure, every pound unnecessarily spent on Local Government Reorganisation is a pound which cannot be spent on the services our residents rely on.
We don’t want Ipswich Council tax payers having to foot the bill for the government’s poor decision making and this U-turn, and to ensure your money is spent on local services. With Labour agreeing to this, this is your Conservative councillors putting Ipswich residents first.
