Ipswich Labour rejected Conservative Councillor Edward Phillips' proposal last week to rule out a tourist / visitor levy on the town of Ipswich. The purpose to rule it out, is to ensure Ipswich is a top choice for people to stay for leisure or business visits in this part of Suffolk. And protect hospitality businesses from even more damaging taxes imposed by Starmer's tax-addicted government.
Cllr Phillips says "I was very disappointed that the Labour members at Ipswich Borough Council rejected my proposal to rule out any form of tourist tax by the future strategic authority. Instead the uncertainty hangs over our town of a new tax which could damage our ability to attract business and leisure visitors to stay overnight here, and cause more financial pain on top of the other costs imposed by the Labour government on business."
Eddy expressed his gratitude to Tim Passmore, the Conservative Mayoral Candidate, and current PCC, for supporting this proposal.
