Conservative-run Suffolk County Council has revealed the alignment of the proposed Upper Orwell Crossing Bridges.

The main bridge will connect to the existing highway at the Rapier Street roundabout on Wherstead Road, west of the river, and at a new junction, north of Cliff Lane on Holywells Road, east of the river. The bridge includes an opening section over the river.

The second crossing will provide a new vehicular link to the Wet Dock Island and is proposed to be accessed from Felaw Street.

The third crossing is a refurbishment of the existing Prince Philip swing bridge over the lock for use by cyclists and pedestrians.

This is an important step in the progress towards the construction of the bridges which will reduce traffic congestion across the town centre and bring £6.5billion of economic benefit over 60 years.

Please see the Suffolk County Council Website for more details-

The next formal consultation on the project will be launched in around August or September time.

This project is being funded by the Conservative government and Conservative county council and demonstrates our desire to improve opportunities for Ipswich residents by shortening journey times, create new businesses and jobs.

There will be a public information event on Tuesday 6 March at Dance East foyer from 12pm.
