Following intense lobbying from local MP Ben Gummer and your local Councillors led by Cllr Liz Harsant and George Debman the County Council have decided not to proceed with the proposal for traffic lights on Bishops Hill.

Cllr Harsant said: “I am pleased that the Council have listened to the concerns of residents and will not be implementing these traffic lights in the immediate future. We need time to assess how well the new Urban Traffic Management Control system works across the town, and in Holywells, and hopefully this will be a success without the need for lights on Bishops Hill.”

Cllr Graham Newman, Cabinet member for Roads and Transport said: “MP Ben Gummer and local Councillors, led by Liz Harsant made representations to me about these proposals so I decided to launch a more detailed consultation to seek local people’s views. Their objection to the proposals has been overwhelming, so I have decided not to proceed with the signal scheme for the time being. We will review the situation after the Urban Traffic Management Control system has been commissioned and its impact on Ipswich’s traffic flows has been fully assessed.”
