The East of England will benefit from investment in transport, business and technology, as the Chancellor recently set out his plan to reward the hard work of the British People.

This year’s Budget provides a comprehensive plan to support the heath service, our high streets, and ensure working people have more money in their pocket.

Announcements for the East of England include:

  • Further backing the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford Corridor which will benefit the East of England, including announcing:
  • An additional £20 million to support the development of the East-West Rail link between Cambridge and Bedford. This is a fundamental part of our ambitious strategy to maximise growth and unlock up to 1 million homes by 2050 – making direct travel between Oxford and Cambridge possible for the first time since the 1960s.
  • Suffolk is the first area to be successful in bidding for full fibre broadband, increasing speeds and connecting public buildings, homes and businesses. Suffolk is the first local area to be successful in bidding for Wave 3 of the Local Full Fibre Networks Challenge Fund.
  • Investing an additional £13 million across the country to improve access to flood information, helping to reduce damage to homes and lives. This includes an expansion to the flood warning system, protecting an additional 1,700 at-risk properties across the East of England.

The Chancellor has set out how the hard work of the British people is paying off. We have seen a significant upgrade to our public finances, underscoring the strength of the economic recovery. Now we turn our eyes to the future, meaning more support for our great public services and higher living standards.
